Splodey! isn’t really a thinking game, instead it is a fast-paced “beat your friends” sort of game. So there isn’t much strategy involved, but the following might help you achieve better scores.

Frantic fingers

When you first play Splodey! there is a temptation to take careful aim at each block. There are times when this makes sense, such as near the end of the round. The rest of the time, however, your best bet is to move your finger as rapidly as you can and fill the screen with balls. You’ll increase your chances of getting balls of the correct colors that way. If the balls get sluggish, shake!

Lock your color

Near the end of a round, try to drag your finger precisely to get just the color you need for the majority of blocks remaining. Then lock the color (tap the rotating ball in the upper-right of the screen) to then use that color to knock out blocks. But remember to unlock when you want a different color! It can be frustrating to lock in the wrong color then wonder why you aren’t knocking out blocks.

Poke, poke, poke and shake!

Several levels have small interior regions, like the Smiley level. It can be tricky (but not impossible) to place high speed balls inside of these regions. So instead, poke your pointer inside of the enclosed area several times to make a bunch of balls… then shake, shake, shake! This will excite the balls to maximum speed and increase the chances of a splosion.
